WHAT IS PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY?
This therapy is an in-office, non-surgical treatment to restore hair growth. PRP is a treatment that uses scientific technology to process a small amount of your own blood. The PRP process takes a small amount of your blood which is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the various components in your blood. The red and white blood cells are divided and plasma cells are isolated producing platelet rich plasma (PRP). The highly enriched plasma is injected into the targeted areas of the scalp where the growth factors in the plasma stimulate the hair follicle’s growth.
Pain is minimized by anesthesia sprays to help numb the skin. Patients are able to drive themselves home. Additional PRP treatments are scheduled over the course of several months.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY?
Millions of men and women experience hair thinning. For women thinning hair can be due to heredity. But for most women, hair loss is attributed to age, medications, illnesses and hair care overtime. Hair loss in men is also influenced by heredity. With age the hair follicles weaken, thin and more of the scalp is exposed. This type of hair loss is often referred to as “male pattern baldness.”
PRP therapy can be used by men and women who are experiencing hair loss but still have functioning but “weak” quality hair follicles.
