WHAT IS DYSPORT®?
Dysport® is an injection (also known as botulinum toxin type A) and works by blocking nerve activity in the muscles, reduces wrinkles by temporarily reducing muscle activity.
WHAT DOES DYSPORT® TREAT?
These injections are used to treat various conditions. More popularly, it is used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows, which are called frown lines or glabellar lines. Other than its cosmetic purpose, Dysport® is also used as a treatment for neck pain and abnormal head position, which are commonly found in patients with cervical dystonia.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DYSPORT® AND BOTOX?
Although the treatment works the same as Botox, research suggests that Dysport® could act faster and work longer than its counterpart, but the results may vary from patient to patient. Furthermore, the treatment is able to spread farther from the injection site. This allows a much broader area of treatment when it comes to small wrinkles such as crow’s feet that branch out from the corners of the eyes. The treatment may require fewer injections as well.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A DYSPORT® SESSION?
The administration of Dysport® is done by injecting the solution directly into the facial muscles that need treatment. Glabellar lines usually require three to five injections. Most of our patients in St. George find the procedure tolerable and almost painless, which is why a local anesthetic is usually not necessary. However, we at Riverside Medical Arts may provide an anesthetic cream before starting the procedure for those who cannot tolerate discomfort easily.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE RESULTS OF DYSPORT®?
Most patients begin to notice the results from their treatment within one to seven days following the injections. Within three days, half of the patients see the softening of their wrinkles while the other half tend to notice them after the third day. In some cases, full effect may take up to 2 weeks. The patient may experience minor side effects, such as headache and drooping of the eyelids or eyebrows, which usually happen when the drug spreads too widely from the injection site.
