WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are derived from the botulinum toxin, a substance that has the ability to temporarily paralyze or reduce muscle activity. Today, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are primarily delivered to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, fine lines, and creases in the face. Moreover, it is used as a treatment for excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis, as well as for neck spasms and chronic migraine.
WHAT DOES BOTOX® COSMETIC TREAT?
Botulinum toxin injections work by blocking certain chemical signals from the nerves that cause the muscles to contract. Because of this, the treatment is able to temporarily relax the underlying facial muscles that cause wrinkles and creases.
WHAT ARE BOTOX® COSMETIC FDA-APPROVED USES?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-Approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines look better. The injections are quick and delivers noticeable results in 24 to 48 hours.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY BOTOX® COSMETIC APPOINTMENT?
We recommend you schedule an initial consultation with one of our experienced nurse injectors to discuss your facial rejuvenation goals. During this time, you will be asked provider may ask you about any medications you are currently taking. You may have to stop taking some of these medications, such as blood thinners, several days before your BOTOX® Cosmetic session to minimize the risk for bruising and bleeding.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY BOTOX® COSMETIC APPOINTMENT?
Your skin will be cleaned, then iced. Before photos may be taken. Your provider will deliver tiny amounts of botulinum toxin directly into the skin or facial muscle using a thin needle. The number of injections administered will depend upon the extent of the area you wish to be treated and the extent of muscle activity. The injection process is quick with no to minimal pain.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF A BOTOX® COSMETIC PROCEDURE?
After your treatment session, our patients are usually advised to return to their normal activities immediately aside from working out aggressively the day of the treatment. However, they are advised to take extra caution not to rub the treated areas since this can displace the toxin to other areas of the face unintentionally. We usually tell patients not to lie down for 3-4 hours.
The results gradually become noticeable in 24 to 48 hours after the treatment. BOTOX® Cosmetic effects usually last 3 to 6 months. Follow-up injections may be needed in order to maintain optimal results.
